Chapter 536: Killing the chicken to scare the monkeys: Crazy Chang Tai
Liu Zhi's words immediately resonated with some generals present. They began to whisper, and dissatisfaction with the Southern Government spread in the conference room.
Chang Tai's heart sank when he saw this. He knew that the dissatisfaction of these generals had accumulated to the extreme, and if it was not properly handled, it would likely lead to a greater crisis.
He took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. "I know everything you said. The Southern Government did make many choices out of necessity, but that doesn't mean we can betray it. As generals, we should set an example and stick to our duties and beliefs."
Li Jun sneered: "Duty? Faith? Those things have long been trampled by the Southern Government and are worthless! What we need is not empty slogans, but real guarantees!"
Li Jun stood in the center of the conference room, his voice firm and loud, his eyes flashing with determination, as if he had made up his mind and would not look back.
"I, Li Jun, will tell you directly today," he said, without any hesitation, "the Southern Government is a broken ship that can sink at any time. If we continue to stay on this ship, we will only be doomed along with it."
He swept his eyes over everyone's faces, seeing some generals showing hesitation, while others were shocked. But he did not stop, and continued: "I will lead my soldiers to surrender to China. We are Chinese. We left our homes and followed the Southern Government to Liuwan. We are branded as traitors and have to fight with our compatriots. I, Li Jun, have had enough of this kind of life!"
At this point, his voice revealed a hint of grief and anger, and his eyes became sharp, as if he could see through everyone's heart.
"I advise you to think about your own retreat," he continued. "Even if you don't think about yourselves, you should think about your brothers. They have followed us through life and death, and we cannot let them sacrifice in vain."
As soon as he finished speaking, the meeting room fell into silence. Everyone was thinking about his words, and the atmosphere became extremely tense.
Chang Tai sat on the rostrum with a frown on his face. He knew that Li Jun's words had touched the hearts of many generals, and they began to waver in their loyalty to the Southern Government.
"Li Jun, so you are determined to go your own way and refuse to change your ways?" Chang Tai's voice was as cold as ice, and every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth. He stared at Li Jun with a cold light flashing in his eyes, as if he wanted to see through Li Jun.
Li Jun looked back at Chang Tai without showing any weakness, with a disdainful smile on his face: "I have already made my attitude clear, you can think whatever you want, I'm sorry I won't accompany you anymore!" With that, he turned around and was about to leave the meeting room.
At this moment, Chang Tai suddenly stood up, waved his hand violently, and threw the teacup in his hand to the ground. With a crisp "snap" sound, the teacup was instantly smashed to pieces, and the tea splashed everywhere. This sudden action surprised everyone present, and they all turned their eyes to Chang Tai.
Chang Tai's face turned livid. He glared at Li Jun and shouted, "Li Jun, do you think you can just walk away like this? Do you think your Second Army can rebel?"
Before he finished speaking, the door of the conference room was suddenly pushed open, and a team of fully armed soldiers rushed in. They held long guns, with the black muzzles pointing directly at Li Jun, and the whole venue was suddenly shrouded in a murderous atmosphere.
Li Jun was frightened by this scene and his face changed drastically. He turned around suddenly and looked at the guns pointed at him, with a flash of fear in his eyes. But he quickly regained his composure and sneered: "Chang Tai, you are playing tricks on me, right? As long as I can't get out, my Second Army will rebel immediately!"
Li Jun waved his fist angrily, the sound echoed in the empty hall, and his curses were like a storm, constantly hitting Chang Tai's eardrums.
"Chang Tai, you selfish villain, you want to be a loyal servant of the Huang family, so why do you drag all of us into this!" Li Jun's face flushed and his voice was hoarse, as if he wanted to pour out all the anger in his heart.
Chang Tai stood opposite him, expressionless and his eyes were as cold as ice.
He spoke slowly, his voice low and cold: "You are right. Although the old president is dead, no one can leave at this time when the Southern Government is in turmoil. You must repay all the benefits you have received from the Southern Government."
Li Jun was enraged by Chang Tai's words. He took a step forward, pointed at Chang Tai's nose and shouted, "You bastard, a politician who only knows how to scheme and intrigue, dares to brandish a knife and a gun in front of me? Believe it or not, I will have your whole family killed!"
Chang Tai remained unmoved. He looked at Li Jun coldly, then suddenly raised his hand and pulled out the pistol from his waist.
This action stunned everyone present. They couldn't believe that Chang Tai would actually pull out a gun here.
Chang Tai aimed at Li Jun's forehead and pulled the trigger without hesitation. A gunshot broke the silence of the hall. Li Jun was shot in the forehead, blood and brains splattered everywhere, and his body fell heavily to the ground, lifeless.
Everyone present was stunned by the sudden change. They looked at Chang Tai as if they saw a crazy demon. However, Chang Tai acted as if nothing had happened. He put away his gun and turned his gaze to Liu Mingkai, the director of the Political Affairs Bureau.
Liu Mingkai looked at Li Jun on the ground, and then at Chang Tai in front of him. His face was as pale as paper, and his legs were shaking uncontrollably. He knew that he might face the same fate next.
Chang Tai walked up to Liu Mingkai, looked at him coldly, and said, "Liu Mingkai, you don't have to pretend. I know that you colluded with Huaguo. Do you think you did it perfectly? I already have evidence of your crime."
Liu Mingkai felt desperate when he heard this. He knew he had nowhere to escape and could only face Chang Tai's questioning. He stammered, "Chang... Chang Tai, you... you listen to my explanation. I... I didn't collude with Huaguo. This is all a misunderstanding..."
Chang Tai sneered and interrupted Liu Mingkai: "Misunderstanding? Do you think I will believe your lies? Do you think I don't know the secret deal between you and China? Do you think I don't know that you have been providing information to the Chinese Central Intelligence Agency for your own retreat?"
Liu Mingkai looked at the gun in Chang Tai's hand and was frightened out of his wits. His body trembled involuntarily, and sweat rolled down his forehead, intertwining with the fear on his face. His eyes were full of despair, as if he had seen the end of his life.
"Chang Tai, I... I really know I was wrong. Please let me go this time considering that I have contributed a lot to the Southern Government, even if I have no credit, at least for the hard work..." Liu Mingkai's voice was trembling. He tried hard to calm himself down, but fear had already made him lose his mind.
Chang Tai looked at him coldly, with a mocking smile on his face: "Liu Mingkai, do you know what a mean face is and what a shame is! You are a scum who is disloyal to the Southern Government, and you should pay the price for your actions!"
When Liu Mingkai heard this, his fear deepened. He suddenly felt a hot and wet sensation coming from his lower body.
When he looked down, he saw that his pants were wet. It turned out that he was so scared that he had urinary incontinence.
"Please... please, Chang Tai! I don't want to die, I really don't want to die..." Liu Mingkai knelt on the ground, hugged Chang Tai's legs tightly with both hands, and begged with tears. His voice was full of despair and helplessness, like a person who was about to fall into the abyss.
