Chapter 73: The Newcomers’ Choice! Slaughtering Beastkin!

However, Leo quickly realized that the ones speaking were not members of the Battlefield Faction.

Instead, they were fellow newcomers, Rog and Fidis.

……

At this moment, there was still half an hour before the mission announcements in the hall. The entire hall was empty, yet Fidis and Rog had arrived very early.

As newly promoted Quasi-Knights, they had been required to report here this morning.

Fidis had been injured the previous night, but they were only superficial wounds. After using Lady Manta’s Level 2 potion, he had mostly recovered.

Rog, however, was clearly in low spirits. He had not slept all night, and there was a lingering sense of frustration within him.

He kept repeating a hypothetical scenario in his mind—if he were given another chance, he would definitely step forward and face that giant lizard.

“Don’t dwell on it, Rog. The year-end assessment is already over. What comes next is our real challenge.” Fidis made a fist, as energetic as ever.

Clearly, he was full of anticipation for the upcoming Quasi-Knight missions.

But Rog still looked dejected. “At least you got a reward. Not only was my reward taken back, but I was also severely scolded by Instructor Clarsen.”

“Taken back?” Fidis was evidently unaware of this.

“Yeah. Although it was only twenty silver coins, that bottle of body-tempering potion was extremely valuable.”

Outside the door, Leo glanced at the package in his hands. Could it be…

These extra rewards had been taken back from Rog?

Without thinking further, Leo put away the package and walked into the Knight Hall.

It was a vast space the size of a basketball court, with pale white walls and spotless black stone tiles.

A standard European minimalist office style, solemn and dignified.

This was his first time being qualified to enter this place.

“Hey! Leo!” Fidis greeted him from afar.

Fidis was extremely excited. After last night, there was a hint of admiration in his eyes when he looked at Leo.

“Leo, you were really… that huge monster, and you actually dared to charge at it.” Although Rog was somewhat frustrated, he was quite convinced by Leo. “From now on, in hunting missions, you’ll be our captain.”

Xiya had just explained to him that many of the hunting missions in the Knight Hall required teams to take them on.

“I agree with you being captain…” Fidis also voiced his support.

However, Leo had no intention of taking on hunting missions at all.

He had come to the hall simply to report in.

He was very busy right now. As for missions, he planned to observe first before deciding.

Training was undoubtedly his top priority.

Gradually, more Quasi-Knights began entering from outside.

“Hey, brother, I heard your Breathing Technique reached eighty. That’s quite an improvement over last year.”

“Not at all. But speaking of it, your swordsmanship has improved at an astonishing rate.”

“Speaking of swordsmanship, I was truly shocked. I didn’t expect the gap between us and Eve to be so large.”

“Yeah, we originally thought that with so many of us together, she couldn’t possibly knock all of us down at once. But who would’ve thought… sigh.”

The group chatted noisily, yet no one paid any attention to Leo and the other two.

Just as they were talking animatedly, the discussions suddenly came to a halt.

Leo saw a group of people in black-and-white robes walking in briskly from outside.

Their demeanor was distinctly different from the other Quasi-Knights.

They appeared quiet and rigid, yet their every movement carried a restrained sense of authority.

They were clearly the staff of the Knight Hall.

Leo recognized the woman leading them—Tita, the Knight’s Squire of Anthony.

Xiya had just mentioned that among the Five Great Knights, Anthony was responsible for the daily administrative management of the Knight Hall.

And Tita, as his Knight’s Squire and assistant, held a very high position within the Knight Hall.

“Leo. Morning.” Tita, with her ponytail, looked exceptionally capable.

She glanced directly at the three newcomers, though she only greeted Leo before swiftly beginning to announce the day’s missions.

A long scroll slowly unfurled, densely packed with tiny text.

“Hunt five Level 1 Kobolds, reward: 1 merit point per head, long-term.

Hunt ten Level 2 Headhunter Tribe members, reward: 3 merit points per head, long-term.

Hunt two Level 3 Earth Dragons, reward: 120 merit points per head. Within 30 days. Requirement: team of at least three.

Hunt one Level 3 Centaur, reward: 250 merit points. Within 30 days. Requirement: team of at least five.

……”

At this moment, the three of them looked at the long list of missions.

There were more than forty in total, with over thirty being hunting missions.

The higher the level of the Beastkin hunted, the greater the reward.

Leo continued reading downward.

“Deliver castle correspondence, reward: 1 merit point per month.

Administrative duties for Knight Anthony, reward: 2 merit points per month.

Patrol duties for Knight Ray, reward: 3 merit points per month.

Assist Lady Manta in slaughtering Beastkin, reward: 10 merit points per month.

……”

The final dozen or so entries appeared to be long-term tasks settled monthly.

This was the new batch of mission listings.

Beside Leo, Rog and Fidis read through them line by line.

Fidis’ gaze lingered among the top entries, excitement faintly showing in his eyes. “Hunting Level 2 Headhunter Tribe members—this one works. Each one gives 3 merit points. If we’re lucky, one day out is enough to exchange for a bottle of Level 1 body-tempering potion!”

After last night’s battle with the Level 3 Beastkin Thunder Lizard, Fidis already understood how formidable Level 3 Beastkin were.

But Level 2 Headhunter Tribe members—he felt he could handle them.

“I think we can join other Quasi-Knights’ teams and build up hunting experience. If we manage to kill a Level 3 Centaur, the share of merit points would cover us for half a year. What do you think, Leo?” Rog also had his own ideas.

While the two continued chattering, Leo’s gaze skipped past the hunting missions at the top and lingered over the final rows.

Undoubtedly, the hunting missions required a large amount of time spent outside the city.

Only the long-term tasks at the bottom could be completed within the city.

After reviewing everything, his gaze ultimately settled on assisting Lady Manta in slaughtering Beastkin.

From what he could see, this task suited him best at the moment.

After last night, a single Thunder Lizard had nearly raised his 【Hunting】 skill by an entire level.

Although the merit reward for this task was not high, he was currently raising Beastkin—this would conveniently provide a full chain of work from feeding to slaughtering.

And most importantly, this task did not require leaving Blackstone City. Leo was not lacking in resources at the moment.

So he did not want to waste time or take risks on hunting missions.

At this point, the others had not yet finished reading through the list, but Leo had already stepped forward and stood before Xiya.

He had made his choice.

Just as he was about to speak, however, a hurried voice from behind called out to him—

“Excuse me, Knight Leo.”
