Chapter 329 - 262: Gift
Chapter 329 - 262: Gift
Seeing this, Feng Shan raised a hand to his lips and whistled.
A moment later, Cigar, who had just been letting off steam and frolicking in the darkness, seemed to hear his master’s call. He immediately stopped his frantic running, wheeled around, and galloped back out of the shadows.
His powerful frame flickered in and out of view in the interplay of night and firelight. His four hooves beat a rhythmic, muffled tattoo on the mossy ground.
Soon, Cigar reached Feng Shan and nuzzled his head into his chest.
"Come, let me introduce you." Feng Shan patted Cigar’s head and gestured to Nash. "This is Nash, my younger brother."
Cigar bobbed his head up and down and snorted, as if to say hello.
"Oh no, the horses are running away!" a member of the Bear Tribe suddenly shouted.
Animals are naturally spooked by fire.
This was especially true for a herd of Quarter Horses that hadn’t yet had time to acclimate to their new surroundings.
The Quarter Horses had just stepped out of the shipping container when they looked up and saw the massive bonfire blazing nearby.
The leaping flames and the CRACKLING of the burning wood terrified them.
They instantly flew into a panic. The once-orderly group descended into chaos as the horses began to whinny restlessly, their cries rising and falling, piercing the silent night.
One after another, the Quarter Horses kicked up their heels and bolted in every direction.
This was trouble.
Within the range of the tribe’s Fire Seed, the herd could handle the temperature.
But if they ran outside the Fire Seed’s area, the extreme weather—over forty degrees below zero—would quickly freeze them into ice sculptures.
"Quick, stop them!"
"Block them! Block them!"
The Bear Tribe members gave chase, but how could two legs ever outrun four?
In just a few strides, the herd vanished into the darkness.
Feng Shan, however, remained calm. He patted Cigar’s thick neck. "Go round them up. What are they running around for?"
NEIGH!!
Cigar gave a sharp snort, then shot forward like an arrow, chasing after the scattered herd.
"It’s fine. He’ll have them back soon," Feng Shan reassured the panicked Bear Tribe members. Just then, the CH-60 helicopter that had delivered the container retracted its cable and flew away.
Then it was the remaining helicopters’ turn to drop their pallets.
Due to their limited carrying capacity, the next helicopters lowered wooden-crate pallets.
Feng Shan walked over, grabbed a crowbar from nearby, aimed it at a seam in the wooden crate, and pried hard.
The lid of the crate popped open, revealing a thick layer of insulation cotton. This layer tightly sealed the interior space, doing its best to block out the external cold.
Looking deeper inside, the remaining space was stuffed with dry hay for warmth. The hay was packed full, emitting a faint, fresh, grassy scent.
And there, in this warm and cozy little den, four half-grown Angus cattle were casually munching on feed.
They seemed completely unfazed by the crate being opened, merely lifting their eyelids slightly to glance at the situation outside before lowering their heads again to slowly chew their feed.
"Out you come, out you come!" Seeing them, Feng Shan bent down, grabbed a handful of moss from the ground, and dangled it in front of the Angus cattle, as if tempting a child with a tasty snack.
MOO!!
The Angus cattle caught the scent of the fresh moss. Their previously lazy eyes instantly brightened, their interest clearly piqued.
They immediately dropped the unfinished feed from their mouths, ambled out of the wooden crate one step at a time, and stretched their necks as they walked, trying to reach the moss in Feng Shan’s hand.
The moss in the camp was spawned by the tribe’s Fire Seed, giving it a unique aroma and a tender texture. For these Angus cattle, it was naturally far more tempting than ordinary feed.
After leaving the crate, the four Angus cattle looked as if they had discovered a new world, their eyes filled with novelty and excitement.
They first surveyed their surroundings with curiosity, their noses constantly sniffing the air, taking in the completely different atmosphere from inside the crate.
Before long, they lowered their heads and began to feast.
Their mouths opened and closed, rapidly chewing the moss on the ground.
Next, the second pallet was lowered by a helicopter, and Feng Shan repeated the same procedure.
Another four Angus cattle joined the feasting herd.
Four head.
Eight head.
Twelve head.
By the time the last helicopter dropped off Jeff and departed, there were sixteen head of cattle on the Tundra.
As for the herd of horses, Cigar had rounded them up long ago. Seeing that Feng Shan was busy, Cigar had herded them to a spot not far away.
If any horse even thought about trying to run, Cigar would charge in, biting and kicking. After a good thrashing, every last horse became incredibly well-behaved.
"Feng, what do you think? These Angus cattle are the best from Horned Ranch." Jeff came up to Feng Shan, dragging a large suitcase and looking for praise.
"Thanks!" Feng Shan nodded. He could tell from the cattle’s spirited condition that their quality was excellent.
"The next batch of cattle won’t be here for another four hours. How about we find a place for a drink?"
Jeff suggested, his tone suddenly pointed.
Feng Shan looked at him, knowing that if Jeff was talking like this, he definitely wanted something.
As for what it was, he didn’t even need to ask. Jeff was undoubtedly a go-between sent by the Elder Chief.
"Nash, bring Jeff to the bar to find me. I’m going to ride back first!" Feng Shan nodded, whistled to summon Cigar to his side, and swung himself smoothly onto the horse’s back. "Cigar, to the camp."
Which way was the camp?
Cigar, having just gotten off the helicopter, naturally didn’t know.
Feng Shan patted the horse’s neck with his hand to guide him.
...
「In the camp.」
