Chapter 188: Uproar
Chapter 188: Uproar
But Bai Xiahui didn't care about that at the moment; she just retreated in a panic.
"It's actually Princess Jinglie..." she muttered to herself for a moment, finally snapping out of her daze, staring blankly at the slightly angry face.
"There's a saying that's been passed down for generations, I remember it's called 'Disaster comes from the mouth.' If you can learn from today's lesson and keep this saying firmly in mind..."
Before Lin Rusi could finish speaking, Bai Xiahui hurriedly shook her head and knelt down in front of Lin Rusi with a thud.
She gripped Lin Rusi's hem with both hands, her face pressed tightly against Lin Rusi's knees, tears streaming down her face.
With her skirt being grabbed, Lin Rusi said helplessly, "Let go."
The banquet is still going on, and if the bottom of the dress gets dirty now, it will somewhat damage the image.
But Bai Xiahui showed no sign of letting go; she hugged him tighter with a mournful face.
Bai Xiahui choked up and couldn't speak a complete sentence. She could only plead intermittently, "This is the first time I've attended a banquet of this scale. I just arrived recently. I was blind and lost my composure... I said so many unreasonable things."
"Let go first." Lin Rusi moved her feet and stepped back.
The arrogant and domineering Bai Xiahui was now crawling on the ground crying like a docile and obedient cat. Such a big change made everyone secretly happy.
This is a rare and wonderful show.
However, the other powerful families only dared to chuckle to themselves.
The atmosphere reached a freezing point. Everyone stood silently to the side, looking at Bai Xiahui, who was in great pain, with a mixture of pity and disgust.
She became the clown at the center of the banquet.
"Please...please have mercy..." Bai Xiahui continued to sob, "I was wrong, I was really wrong."
Bai Xiahui's crying echoed throughout the hall, and after a while, it became somewhat annoying.
"That's enough, stop crying." Lin Rusi sighed, looking at the woman in front of her, feeling exhausted.
Lin Rusi thought to herself, this is a banquet hosted by the Duchess of Qi, the men are lively and it is rare for them to play around. If such a good atmosphere is ruined, she will feel a little guilty.
"Stand up."
Bai Xiahui shakily got up from the ground, her face covered in tears and dust, her hair falling loosely over her neck and shoulders, looking utterly disheveled.
She hastily wiped her face with her hands, wiping away her tears, and stood obediently in front of Lin Rusi.
Although Bai Xiahui appeared compliant, one could still see the resentment and bitterness she was trying so hard to hide in her eyes.
"Aren't you going to say anything?" Lin Rusi frowned, her hands twitching slightly.
Bai Xiahui immediately understood. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "Today's events were entirely my fault. I was the one who disrespected my superior. I hope Princess Jinglie will not take it to heart..."
Lin Ru thought this through and turned away after hearing it.
"Show them out." The Duchess of Qi said calmly to the servant beside her as the farce came to an end.
As soon as he finished speaking, the people standing next to him ran over and tugged at Bai Xiahui's clothes.
"Let go... I have something to say."
"Speak," said the Duchess of Qi, giving her a chance to speak.
Bai Xiahui broke free from the servant's hand and carefully straightened the hem of her dress.
"Please allow me to continue attending this banquet."
She brazenly spoke up, glancing up at the expression on the face of the Duke of Qi.
Lady Qi's face turned ashen. She cleared her throat and said in a low voice, "Your clothes are all disheveled today. It will be a problem in this hall. Why don't you go back and fix them first?"
"But I..."
Bai Xiahui sighed, about to say something, when suddenly her eyes lit up as a figure hurriedly approached from afar.
Bai Xiahui immediately recognized the visitor as her brother.
"I heard there's trouble here..."
A deep male voice broke into the frozen atmosphere.
"It's all over now." The Duchess of Qi waved her sleeves, glanced at the servants in front of her, and gestured for Bai Xiahui to be taken out.
Seeing his younger sister being "sent off," the older brother was somewhat bewildered, but a surge of anger welled up inside him.
"Get your hands off her! How dare you touch the body of the Bai family's daughter?"
Hearing her brother's angry voice, Bai Xiahui was stunned.
She knew what was going to happen next, but she stood there dumbfounded, unable to stop it.
We're going to repeat the same mistakes again.
"Do you know the Bai family? Do you know the Bai family's wealth? My father is a high-ranking official appointed by the Emperor himself, and Xia Hui is the beloved young lady of the whole family. I think it's you who have lost your composure!"
Hearing these insolent words, Bai Xiahui felt a chill run down her spine. She grabbed her brother's hand and pleaded softly, "Please stop...please stop..."
He remained relentless, even shaking off Bai Xiahui's hand.
He stood in front of Bai Xiahui and said, "Don't be afraid, I will definitely get an explanation for what happened today."
Lin Rusi turned her head slightly upon hearing the voice, glanced at it with disdain, and said indifferently, "One wave subsides only for another to rise... There are quite a few troubles today."
What do you mean by that?
"Stop talking..." Bai Xiahui's eyes welled up with tears as she rushed forward to stop her brother.
"The Bai family?" The Duchess of Qi sneered, unimpressed.
Her attitude naturally triggered another uproar.
"You...you dare to slander me?!"
"That's enough. Today's banquet has been ruined. What kind of behavior is this, making such a mess?" The Duchess of Qi sighed, not wanting to interfere any further.
With a flick of her sleeve, the servant understood.
One person held down a young lady and a young master from the Bai family.
"What kind of dog are you? How dare you touch me with your filthy hands?" With that, he slapped the servant's hand away, and still not satisfied, he slapped the servant across the face.
Bai Xiahui was stunned. She had never imagined that her brother's temper was even more fiery than her own.
By the time they realized what was happening, it was too late.
“You’re confused. The person standing in front of us is Princess Jinglie…” Bai Xiahui said, choking back tears, holding her brother’s arm and repeating it over and over again.
Still consumed by anger, he disregarded everything else and began to hurl insults.
The hall was in complete chaos, with a steady stream of people pouring in to watch the spectacle.
The Duchess of Qi could no longer tolerate it.
"Quick, someone, hold him down!"
After saying that, he attracted three or four strong men.
Upon seeing the several burly men, he chickened out, cowering and sweating profusely.
"If you dare to lay a finger on me today, you'll regret it!"
"It seems like we're all family and can't help but talk like family. It's so similar to what happened just now." Lin Rusi squinted, glanced at it, and then looked away.
"I demand an explanation today! Otherwise, I'm not leaving!"
Bai Xiahui bit her lip nervously.
