Chapter 152 Never Regret
Chapter 152 Never Regret
"Xie... Hongyang?" The zombie king repeated the name over and over, but never seemed to accept it.
He had heard the name, seen the name, and even seen it listed alongside another name in that red book.
He just didn't think that was him, at least not the person he is now.
He had seen this girl in his memory, but her face was veiled in mist, making it impossible to see clearly or remember her.
But the zombie king was deeply impressed by her eyes, as if she had stared at him like that countless times.
"Come on, don't just stand here in a daze."
The girl took his hand and pulled him along, their feet sinking into the damp soil and grass, the warmth of her hand burning hot.
He didn't know where he was being taken, yet he seemed to know as well. These were things he had experienced before, and as he stepped into a villa, the corresponding memories surfaced in his mind.
Two childhood sweethearts, one a rich girl and the other the adopted son of a driver, live under the same roof, yet are worlds apart.
She would peek out from the balcony and smile at him, she would repeatedly take the initiative to get closer, and she would deliberately rest her head on his shoulder.
She would hug her knees, turn her head and smile at him, expressing her feelings affectionately and directly. The words she said to him most often were, "Xie Hongyang, take me away, anywhere is fine."
He had selfish motives, yet he couldn't bear to let those motives ruin her.
On the first day he was brought back to this villa, when he was being bullied by everyone, and only a girl younger than him stretched out her hands to protect him, he swore that he would use his worthless life to protect her.
The son abandoned by a criminal, a petty person living in the shadows and ravines, can never reach the bright moon.
The zombie king stood frozen in front of the door, unsure of his identity as someone to enter. Seeing him standing there dumbfounded, the girl beside him teased, "What's wrong? Are you embarrassed?"
As she spoke, she pushed him inside, saying, "Don't worry, my parents have accepted you for a long time. My dad has actually admired you since we were little, and my mom has known about us for a long time, otherwise they wouldn't have turned a blind eye to our relationship."
"You're such a blockhead, sticking to your own ideas. My dad said he'd test you by sending you to the army, and you went without a second thought, without even discussing it with me..."
The girl talked on and on, and with each sentence she spoke, a part of Xie Hongyang's memories would resurface. Their social statuses were vastly different, yet they couldn't overcome the feelings that were becoming increasingly difficult to control.
Together they endured societal prejudices. She went without food or drink to win her parents' approval, while he endured his adoptive father breaking his leg as a form of discipline without uttering a sound.
Finally, they tried to compromise by sending him to the army to gain experience over a few years. They agreed to his request as long as he could make a name for himself.
After several years of persistence, the elders finally relented. When they entered the house, the familiar figures were still indistinct, but Xie Hongyang could easily distinguish who they were.
The slightly overweight man slammed his cane on the floor, glared at her, and said irritably, "You've really made something of yourself, kid. I've been keeping an eye on all those blondies out there, but you're the only one I've overlooked!"
The gentle woman next to her smiled and said, "I wonder who was it that used to praise Xiao Xie at home every day, but now they're putting on airs in front of the person in question."
Xie Hongyang's adoptive father sat beside him, drinking tea and smiling at the two children in front of him, his eyes filled with satisfaction and contentment.
He had no children in his life, but treated Xie Hongyang as his own son. The only time he ever hit Xie Hongyang was when he found out that Xie Hongyang was having an affair with the young lady.
Xie Hongyang had only ever longed for a home since childhood, and everything he had now was exactly what he desired.
The girl beside him was never spoiled; she was kind, bright, and optimistic, a completely different person from him. Yet, how lucky they were to have met, gotten to know each other, and fall in love.
The girl reached out and intertwined her fingers with Xie Hongyang's. She turned to him and smiled gently, her eyes revealing boundless tenderness.
"Thank you, Hongyang. Welcome home."
After going through so many hardships, they finally got married. On the night before they registered their marriage, they kissed in the garden, held each other tightly, and looked forward to the future together. Xie Hongyang once thought that God had not let him down in the end.
From childhood acquaintances to teenage crushes, and now to heartfelt devotion, it's no exaggeration to say that all the hardships have finally paid off.
Xie Hongyang touched the girl in front of him. He couldn't see her face clearly, and he couldn't remember her name. He seemed to have forgotten a lot, but with each memory, his heart felt more heavy.
He subconsciously avoided the truth, and even felt that things were fine as they were.
They embraced tightly, clinging to each other passionately, wishing they could become a part of each other, inseparable.
On the mirror, covered in moisture, were the fingerprints left by the young lady as she awkwardly helped him up.
Reddened knuckles gripped the mirror tightly, restrained yet tense. Looking up, two blurry figures were reflected in the mirror, their reddened eyes and the water droplets on their eyelashes trembling slightly.
The young lady looked at the person behind her in the mirror, calling his name softly again and again, confirming his presence each time.
Xie Hongyang turned her chin and kissed her lips fiercely, his empty heart surging with love.
The zombie's once-dormant heart began to beat again, and his blood dispersed the mist. After a long time, he finally saw the other person's face clearly and remembered her name.
"Mu...Wan".
Mu Wan smiled faintly as she pressed her forehead against his.
But the next moment, the scene before his eyes changed. The person he had cherished like a treasure was bitten to death by him, and every part of her flesh was devoured by him.
The mangled remains of his body were scattered around him, thick blood flowing down his face, hands, and body...
The carefully chosen dress was stained a joyous red with blood. The once vibrant smiling face now stared blankly with empty eyes, leaving only a head lying lifelessly on the ground.
Xie Hongyang looked at his blood-stained hands with trembling eyes. The smell of blood made his stomach churn. He felt a tearing pain in his heart and his limbs were weak and cold sweat was pouring out.
The string of reason snapped completely after he saw everything clearly before him. He remembered everything, all his memories.
He was scratched by a zombie while protecting Mu Wan, so he pushed her away and hid her. Later, his consciousness became blurred.
Just as he was about to have his crystal core extracted by two other zombies, Mu Wan rushed out from behind, killed one of the zombies, and once again stood in front of him.
And he... killed Mu Wan, who was protecting him, and personally murdered his wife.
At this moment, Xie Hongyang recalled that when he was biting Mu Wan, she held him tightly, stroked his cheek, and felt a mixture of heartache and despair.
"Xie Hongyang, I never regret meeting you. Promise me you won't blame yourself."
