Chapter 115: Revenge
Chapter 115: Revenge
Kandel carefully pulled out the magic image stone, muttering to himself. Suddenly, a dazzling light flashed, and a huge screen of light appeared out of thin air before everyone's eyes.
The scene in the feeding room was clearly visible through the light curtain. Several colorful and diversely patterned vipers huddled together, appearing somewhat terrified. Kandel, expressionless, placed the vipers one by one into a specially crafted magic steel cage. He then took out a few plump magic rabbits and gently tossed them into the cage as food for the vipers.
After completing all this, the experienced alchemist did not leave immediately, but stood there to observe carefully. His sharp eyes swept over each viper, confirming that they were in good health and had no abnormalities. Then he nodded with relief and turned to leave the breeding room filled with danger.
However, shortly after Kandel left, the once quiet enclosure suddenly underwent a startling change. The largest of the group, the golden-eyed black demon snake, suddenly reared up its immense body, as if provoked. It opened its bloody maw, baring its sharp fangs, and let out a chilling hiss. The sound, as if imbued with a special magical power, instantly echoed throughout the enclosure.
Immediately, two other smaller golden-eyed black snakes followed suit, rearing their sleek, black bodies. For a moment, a continuous hissing sound filled the air. Furthermore, even the ordinary black snakes, as if sensing some threat, reared their bodies one after another, emitting bursts of hissing sounds, as if sending some kind of signal to the outside world.
At the same time, several vipers that had been curled up in a corner of the magic steel cage suddenly reared up and issued a series of warning calls towards the outside of the cage. Unfortunately, their resistance was doomed to fail.
At this moment, the three golden-eyed black demon snakes opened their mouths without hesitation and spewed streams of golden venom towards the iron cage opposite. The venom poured down like raindrops, landing accurately on the iron cage where the vipers were.
Faced with this sudden attack, the vipers were completely powerless to fight back. Since they themselves did not have the ability to spray venom, they could only watch helplessly as the venom gradually enveloped the iron cage and then slowly seeped in.
Before long, these pitiful vipers were trapped in a sea of venom, struggling in agony. Although they tried their best to escape, they were ultimately unable to escape their fate of death and could only slowly wait for the end of their lives in the magic steel cage.
"You all saw it. They were killed by the poison of the golden-eyed black snake. I was careless this time. Vipers and black snakes cannot be kept together!"
Kandel sighed helplessly. There was only one feeding room filled with dark elements in the Northland Tower. If he wanted to feed the vipers alone, he had to rebuild a feeding room.
"Have you noticed that the golden-eyed black snakes are so smart? They didn't move when Kandel was here, but they attacked as soon as he left!" Joanna said a few words thoughtfully after looking at the photo.
"Stop talking, everyone. Ever since Caesars left, these black snakes have become particularly aggressive. The apprentices in the tower are dressed like tin cans, and no one dares to enter the feeding room. I've been collecting the snake venom all these years. We shouldn't have let Caesars leave!"
Kandel looked at the three of them and said with some regret. The Golden Eyed Black Demonic Snake was too aggressive, and it was a high-level magical beast. Low-level magicians simply didn't dare to extract its venom, so he had to do it himself every once in a while.
"Kandel, Kaisas is already a high-level magician. He can't come back!"
Joanna, wearing a red magic robe, reminded him from the side. This reminder made the other three great magicians of the Northland Tower fall into deep self-blame. They had abandoned an outstanding heir of the tower.
The Baron of Bano's mansion in Violet City was bustling with activity today, thanks to the arrival of two extraordinary visitors. One wore a black and gold robe, its mysterious and opulent hues imbued with boundless magic; the other, clad in leather armor and carrying an exquisite longbow, looked remarkably heroic, a veteran warrior evident at first glance.
The former of these two was none other than Caesars, who came with a burning desire for revenge. The Ludwig territory, once his family's, was barren and resource-poor, not a place generally considered fertile. However, the greedy Count Ronald, coveting the magic crystal mines within, resorted to cunning and despicable means to seize them for himself.
Less than an hour had passed since Caesars entered the Baron's mansion when the sound of horse hooves and wheels rang out from outside. Then, several luxuriously decorated carriages slowly approached and stopped in front of the mansion. The doors opened, and several people emerged, led by none other than Rad and several of his most prominent students.
When Rad first laid eyes on Caesars, he was startled. Upon seeing the magician's badge on his chest, the gray-haired wizard's eyes widened in disbelief, rubbing them in disbelief, as if what he saw were merely an illusion. He stood there, as if struck by lightning, his gaze fixed on the gleaming magic badge, unable to move even a fraction.
"Kaesas, I didn't expect that you are now a high-level magician..." Rad looked at the person in front of him with surprise, his eyes fell on the magic badge on the other's chest, which was shining with mysterious light.
Kaisas smiled slightly, and couldn't help but sigh in his heart that Rad's vision was indeed sharp: "Rad, it's you again. You can actually see the slightest difference on this badge!" As he spoke, he unconsciously touched the badge that symbolized identity and strength.
Rad laughed heartily, a hint of pride in his eyes. "I carefully polish my magic badge every day, so I'm naturally very familiar with every detail of the pattern on it. Speaking of which, Caesars, your advancement speed is truly astonishing! When I left the Northland Tower, you were just a fledgling magic apprentice!"
Hearing this, the smile on Caesar's face faded slightly. He sighed and said, "Well, actually, you know a little bit about my situation. Although my promotion is indeed faster than that of ordinary people, there are also some minor drawbacks!"
Regarding those secrets that could not be easily revealed, Caesars did not mention a word, but instead made up a white lie that sounded reasonable. There were some things that even an old friend like Rad did not need to know too much.
Rad didn't seem to notice the reservation in Caesar's words, and continued enthusiastically: "Your magic sea will continue to expand with each promotion. This is an advantage that not everyone can have! As for the small disadvantage of the magic sea, you master the powerful spellcasting technique of violent casting, which can easily make up for it!"
Rad, with a solemn expression, led Caesars through the winding path to the backyard. Contrary to popular belief, Rad's residence was not located in the main building of the Baron's mansion, but hidden in an unremarkable small house in the backyard.
As soon as he stepped into the backyard, Caesars was captivated by the scene before him. He saw that the once dilapidated wall had been completely renovated. The tall and majestic wall stood there like an insurmountable fortress.
“This wall has actually been rebuilt!”
Caesars couldn't help but exclaim as he carefully examined the tightly repaired high wall. The morning sun was completely blocked by it, making the entire backyard seem gloomy and chilly.
Rad quickly stepped forward to explain: "Caesar, not long after you left last time, Viscount Bruce ordered people to rebuild this wall. Look, this wall is not only much thicker than before, but it has also been forcibly raised by more than one or two meters!" After saying that, Rad stomped his feet in indignation.
Hearing this, Caesars's fury instantly ignited. "Hmph, this ignorant little viscount clearly ignored my warning! Does he really think a more solid wall like this can stop me?" He said, motioning for the people behind him to step back.
Then, Caesars pulled a bottle of undead rot from his bosom, emitting a strange aura. Without hesitation, he poured half the contents into the gap between the two massive rocks. Instantly, a thick white mist erupted like a volcano, quickly spreading throughout the area. Simultaneously, a nauseating, pungent odor filled the air, seemingly wiping out the olfactory nerves of everyone present.
"My hand just shook, and I poured too much super acid. Please step back a little!"
Caesars retreated rapidly, his expression grim, shouting to his companions that the situation was critical. The solid stone wall was reacting violently with the highly corrosive acid, creating a continuous hissing sound that seemed to tear apart the surrounding air. As the reaction intensified, a vast amount of toxic white mist rose up, like a pot of boiling steam, drifting continuously into the sky.
Just then, a familiar voice echoed, followed by a familiar smell. He looked down and saw that the animal hide bag beside the seat was trembling slightly, as if something inside was desperately struggling to escape. Caesars quickly reached out and opened the hide bag. In an instant, a pitch-black, triangular head poked out from the opening. The head was the size of an adult's fist, and its vertical pupils shone with a faint golden light, giving it a mysterious and eerie look.
"Stay still and don't come out to scare people!" Caesars frowned and scolded in a low voice.
After saying that, he raised his hand and patted the snake's head vigorously. Perhaps sensing the master's majesty, the snake obediently retracted its head and stopped moving.
Rad, standing nearby, also noticed the small golden-eyed black snake, his eyes filled with unconcealed envy. He knew that these black snakes were extremely difficult to tame and would typically only obey orders from Caesars. He couldn't help but ask, "Caesars, I didn't expect you to bring this one along this time! By the way, did you give it a name?"
Kaisas raised his lips slightly, revealing a smug smile, and replied, "Of course I did. I gave it a very loud and domineering name!"
"What's its name? This way it will be much easier to greet it!" Rad asked curiously, without blinking, as if he was full of interest in this black snake.
Caesars raised the corner of his mouth slightly, revealing a sly smile, and slowly said: "Hey, it's called St. Paul!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the golden-eyed black devil snake that had been quietly staying in the pocket seemed to understand and poked its head out again, its golden eyes flashing with strange light.
Rad, standing nearby, shuddered at the sight. He had, after all, personally told Caesars this name! And the three characters "Saint Paul" were the name of the current Pope of the Church of Saint Laurent. Thinking of this, Rad couldn't help but gasp, his expression instantly becoming solemn.
"Caesars, you are so brave! How dare you give it such a name! If those guys in the Church of Saint Laurent find out, I'm afraid they will fight you to the death!" Rad widened his eyes, with a hint of blame and worry in his tone.
However, facing Rad's warning, Caesars seemed unconcerned. He crossed his arms and confidently replied, "Hmph, what are you afraid of? The Saint Laurent Church is no longer what it once was, and its strength has been greatly weakened. Even the once-renowned Saint Laurent Mercenary Group is now decimated, and the Church can only dispatch a handful of men!"
"Kaisas, do you think a powerful force that has lasted for nearly ten thousand years would be simple? The Saint Laurent Church has a deep foundation. The Saint Laurent Mercenary Group is just the tip of the iceberg, consisting of people eliminated from the church. As far as I know, the church has a team of assassins of about three hundred people, and nearly a thousand ascetics, also known as combat priests. The matter of the dark priests cannot be confirmed for the time being, but such rumors are not groundless!"
The information Rad revealed surprised Caesars. He wasn't afraid of battle priests. As long as they kept their distance, physical professionals were easy targets. But magicians were most afraid of assassins' sneak attacks. A successful ambush would likely lead to their demise.
