Chapter 162 Farewell
Chapter 162 Farewell
Lin Hui seemed to have a dream, and reviewed everything that had happened during this period.
When Lin Feng woke up, he was lying beside Lin Hui's bed. Today was the weekend, so he didn't go to class, but he got up early in the morning.
The hospital's cleaning lady was about to start cleaning, and he also had to help his mother with the stall. The mother and son did not close the stall until the ward rounds were over.
Lin Feng went to the hospital, while Wu Yan returned to the rental house. She also had to prepare for the stall opening in the afternoon. The night market hours could be extended on weekends, and business would be better.
The weather was getting warmer and the sun was shining into the ward, making people feel warm and a little sleepy.
Sunny days in spring are perfect for feeling sleepy.
Lin Feng sat on a small stool in front of the bed and wrote the test paper. The college entrance examination was not far away. Although his grades would definitely not be a problem for him to get into a top university, he dared not relax for a moment in his goal.
Lin Feng thought he had a long dream. After stretching his neck, he turned on his phone to check the time. He had only slept for less than an hour. It was just a nap.
Lin Feng stood up, drank a glass of water, and went back to do the test paper.
In between doing the papers, he would look up from time to time to check on Lin Hui's condition. Lin Hui had been transferred back to the general ward for a while. His condition was neither good nor bad, and he had been relying on medication to maintain his health.
He is conscious but unable to move. The only difference between him and a vegetative person is that he has some faint perception of the outside world.
When he looked up again, Lin Feng found that Lin Hui seemed to have moved, but normally he would not move.
Lin Feng’s first reaction was that Lin Hui’s health had improved.
Lin Feng quickly pressed the call bell and ran to the corridor to call the doctor and nurse loudly.
The doctor on duty quickly walked to the bed to check, and then shouted to the nurse who followed behind him, "Call the director, push the ventilator over, and ask the anesthesiology department to come and intubate."
Lin Feng didn’t understand what this meant. Why did the atmosphere become tense?
Seeing Lin Feng still standing there in a daze, the nurse pulled him aside and closed the curtain beside the bed.
"The patient needs emergency treatment. Please wait outside."
rescue?
Lin Feng's mind went blank. He was fine just now, why did he suddenly need to be rescued?
Lin Feng realized the seriousness of the matter and quickly took out his cell phone to call Wu Yan, "Mom! Where are you? I don't know what happened to my dad. He needs emergency treatment. Come to the hospital quickly!"
Wu Yan, who was chopping stuffing at home, heard the word "rescue" and threw the knife on the table. Without even taking off her apron, she grabbed the key and ran out the door.
When Wu Yan rushed to the hospital, Lin Hui had already been transferred to the operating room for emergency treatment. Lin Feng stood alone at the door of the operating room, motionless, and it was unknown whether he was frightened or not.
"Xiao Feng." Wu Yan pulled Lin Feng to sit on a chair nearby.
Before I could even reach the chair, a young doctor ran out of the operating room with a stack of A4 paper in his hand.
"Lin Hui's family members, where are Lin Hui's family members?" the doctor shouted while looking around.
When Wu Yan and Lin Feng noticed a doctor coming out of the operating room, they didn't think much about it. It was normal for him to come in and out, and they were not the only one having surgery at the same time.
When they heard the doctor calling Lin Hui's name, the two of them suddenly stood up at the same time and ran towards the operating room.
"What's wrong?" Wu Yan asked the doctor anxiously.
The doctor placed the stack of papers in front of Wu Yan. "This is the critical illness notice, this is the blood transfusion consent form, and this is..."
Wu Yan couldn't hear what the doctor was saying. She had undergone several surgeries, but this was the first time she had seen a critical illness notice. Based on her experience watching TV dramas before, this was a procedure that was only performed when a person was about to die.
The doctor did not notice Wu Yan's dazed expression. He handed a pen to Wu Yan and pointed to a certain place on the notice. "Write your relationship with the patient here. Sign your name here."
Wu Yan was like a puppet, signing wherever the doctor asked her to.
Wu Yan kept signing until the doctor took the pen from her hand and turned into the operating room.
It was Lin Feng who dragged Wu Yan to the waiting area. "Mom, let's sit and wait."
Lin Feng's voice was trembling, not only his voice was trembling, his body was also trembling, he couldn't control it.
I don’t know how long it took, but there were groups of people at the door of the operating room, and doctors and nurses came in and out several times.
Other patients who had surgery later were pushed out one after another, with tubes inserted into their bodies and infusion bottles hanging next to the carts.
No doctor called "Lin Hui" anymore.
When the doctor called "Lin Hui" again, there were no other patients' family members at the door of the operating room.
The director came out first. He bowed to Wu Yan and Lin Feng and said, "I'm sorry, the patient has multiple organ failure and rescue efforts are ineffective. Please accept my condolences."
The nurse nearby pushed out a cart covered with a white cloth.
"Impossible, impossible..." Wu Yan rushed over and lifted a corner of the white cloth. Lin Hui's face was still sallow.
"No!" Wu Yan couldn't accept this reality and fainted.
The director called the doctor next to him over and said, "Find a flatbed and send her back to the ward to rest for a while. You can sign the documents after she wakes up."
After explaining this, the director left, his steps somewhat unsteadily.
Lin Feng did not see Lin Hui's final appearance. After Wu Yan fainted, the nurse pushed Lin Hui's body to the morgue in the basement.
Lin Feng looked at the fainted Wu Yan and the doctor standing beside her, "Do you want to sign? Let me do it. I'm an adult."
Lin Feng was afraid that Wu Yan would wake up and see the confirmation documents about the rescue, which would stimulate her again.
His father had passed away, and Lin Feng had grown up, so he took over the burden of the family.
In fact, it was not sudden. I saw many cases in the hospital. Some were able to walk home on their own, some were sent home by ambulance with oxygen tubes, and some, like Lin Hui, could not get off the operating table.
Surgeries and notices one after another slowly made Lin Feng accept that his father, who was in his prime, would leave him one day, and in the near future.
Lin Feng looked at his mother lying on the hospital bed, where his father had been lying just a few hours ago.
He has no father anymore, he only has a mother.
Lin Feng walked out of the ward quietly and went to the end of the corridor. He saw the lights outside the window and the busy crowd. The hospital is always busy, always racing against death.
Lin Feng took out his cell phone, opened the address book, and found the contact information of his class teacher. He wanted to ask for leave.
"Hey, teacher, I need a leave."
“It’s bereavement leave.”
"About a week."
"Well, I'm fine."
"Okay, I'll take care of myself."
Raymond Lam spoke in a calm tone throughout the whole conversation, as if he was saying that he didn't know how to answer a question.
After hanging up the phone and putting it back in his pocket, Lin Feng still stood there motionless. No one saw his silent tears except the moon.
If the hospital had not welded all the windows shut, the nurse would have gone over to pull Lin Feng back.
"Let him stand there alone for a while. It's not easy for the child either." The head nurse sighed.
