Chapter 520 Are you awake?
Chapter 520 Are you awake?
dark.
Sticky, scalding darkness.
Lilith felt as if her body had been torn into pieces and hastily sewn back together. Every breath she took involved the unhealed cracks in her body. Her consciousness was sometimes in and sometimes out, and her eyelids felt heavy, with only a few vague rays of light occasionally leaking in through the cracks.
Or maybe, even that light was just a fantasy in her dream.
She felt that she was conscious, but she could never truly wake up.
"Lilith, Lilith..."
In her broken dreams, there was always a voice calling her name, sometimes far away, sometimes near, which made her very irritated. She wanted to yell at them to shut up, but cold liquid dripped on her lips.
Water! She didn't bother to curse anymore and just greedily tried to drink it. However, the water flowed too fast, most of it slid down her chin, and the rest choked her trachea, causing her to cough violently.
——She is sick.
Lilith realized this as her consciousness was floating, and she felt it was new and strange. She had never been sick in her life.
She felt like she was being tossed and moved around. Someone lifted her up and put a piece of rough cotton cloth underneath to protect her from the cold ground. After a while, it seemed as if they felt the position was not right, so they moved her again, and this cycle continued over and over again.
Lilith began to feel cold again. Even though her breath was filled with scorching heat, her teeth chattered and her whole body trembled. Then, a source of heat would approach her. When she tried to open her eyes, she would always see a pair of gilded red pupils flickering in the darkness.
She had forgotten how uncomfortable being sick was. She felt like she was going to die... If she died now, would she be able to go home? Lilith didn't know.
The alternation of hot and cold repeated countless times, and in a state of half-consciousness, she seemed to be lifted up again.
What's going on this time? Lilith thought vaguely, but she couldn't help but get closer to the heat. The bumpy ride made her head hurt so much that it almost split open, and she couldn't help but groan in pain.
"It's okay, Lilith, it's okay."
A familiar, reassuring voice came from above.
Was it a dream? Lilith struggled to open her eyes, only to see a scruffy chin.
"We will be back to school soon. Teacher Wanda and Teacher Rebecca are also here. You will get treatment soon." The chin spoke again.
Is this... Ian?
Lilith finally regained consciousness and tried hard to open her swollen eyes.
It was daybreak, and she was now held in her partner's arms, heading down a slightly steep slope. The downhill road was difficult to walk on, and was full of gravel, but Ian still held her steadily and followed Mr. Wolf in front of them.
Seeing that Lilith had regained consciousness, Ian's stern expression finally relaxed. He lifted Lilith up so that she could use her arms to support herself on his shoulders and feel more comfortable.
"So you can grow a beard too..." Lilith muttered in a daze on Ian's shoulder, saying irrelevant things.
"Stop chatting!" Teacher Wolfe, who was standing in front of him, turned around and whispered angrily to the careless student, "That dragon could be back at any moment. Hurry, the carriage isn't far away."
Ian was so scolded that he didn't dare to respond to Lilith. He just continued to follow Wolf who was leading the way and walked forward quickly. Lilith, lying on Ian's shoulder, could not see the view ahead, but could only see the trees on both sides constantly retreating.
She seemed to be no longer in the meadow, but on a low hill.
The forest was shrouded in mist. When she looked up, she seemed to see a dark figure standing under a tree with white flowers halfway up the mountain. He was tall and his face was blocked by the drooping branches. Lilith couldn't see the face clearly from a distance. Ian lifted her up again while walking to catch her breath. When she adjusted her posture and looked up again, the figure was no longer under the tree.
Is it that dragon...? Never mind. Lilith rested her burning head on Ian's shoulder, deciding to give up thinking for now.
"Oh my God, hand me that bottle of lotion quickly, she's almost infested with maggots!" The carriage started running as soon as Ian jumped in holding Lilith. Teacher Wanda untied the bulky sheet wrapped around her and gasped in fear.
Only then did Lilith realize that she was tied up with towels of all sizes and even clothes, and she looked bloated. It was really amazing that Ian could carry all this for her.
"I won't die, will I, teacher?" Lilith's voice was weak. Her hair was twisted into clumps by her sweat and stuck to her head. She could even smell the strange smell coming from her body. She knew she was in a terrible state.
"Don't talk nonsense! You're just an unlucky guy who lacks medical treatment!"
Teacher Wanda rolled her eyes at her. The wound she had sustained on Judgment Day hadn't been properly treated, and had been delayed until it festered. No wonder she had a fever and was delirious. However, Wanda couldn't help but feel sour as she cleaned it again.
"That's amazing, Lilith. I've never seen a dragon in my life. You're such a lucky unlucky guy."
"You are so jealous at this time. Did the drug testing mess up your brain?" Rebecca glared at Wanda fiercely, snatched the potion from his hand and fed it to Lilith herself.
Although they were arguing, they did not stop helping her treat the wound. Even though Lilith was still confused at the moment, she felt a surge of warmth in her heart and her eyes turned red. Rebecca noticed her abnormality and touched her dirty hair without any disgust, and performed a cleansing spell on her.
"It's okay, we'll be home soon, Duel Champion." Rebecca, who was always stern, actually smiled at her with a gentle tone.
Go home... Yes, Gladia was her home too. There were teachers and classmates who cared about her and who would come to her rescue despite the dangers she faced when she was kidnapped by a giant dragon.
She looked at the living people in front of her and felt the emptiness in her chest slowly disappearing.
Maybe it was the effect of the drug, but Lilith's clarity didn't last long before darkness engulfed her again. But this time, Lilith no longer felt cold.
When I opened my eyes again, the familiar ceiling of the school clinic was above my head.
"Are you awake?"
